What Happens When Your Roof Sees Too Much Moisture?

Contents

Roof Ventilation Is ImportantMoisture in the structure of the roof may be the result of condensation caused by temperature variations, water infiltrations through the roof and humid air that comes from the interior living space and crosses the ceiling. It is virtually impossible to protect the roof structure 100%, and that is why regular check-ups and maintenance operations are necessary.

At the right temperature, humidity reduces the efficiency of the insulating material and provides good conditions for mold formation and development on the roof cover as well as on its wooden parts. This reduces its resistance, makes it vulnerable and ultimately breaks it down. At the same time, wet wood attracts insects. In the worst case, the affected wood structure of a roof can degrade in just a few years. Appropriate ventilation of all parts of the roof is therefore essential to keep it dry and durable.

Tips

  • The entire structure of the roof must be ventilated – not just the empty space between the cover and the deck
  • If you use anti-condensation foil with higher vapor permeability, you are still not allowed to ignore the ventilation layer between this foil and the thermal insulation
  • A larger number of small ventilation spaces is preferred instead of a smaller number of larger ventilation spaces
  • Roofs with attic windows or skylights require individual ventilation solutions placed above and below the space allocated to these accessories.  Find the right roofing specialist at https://www.roofonemichigan.com/ to help with the individual needs of your home’s roof.

Professional, Knowledgeable, and stress free is how I would describe my experience with Roof One. From first call, a representative actually answers the phone with a friendly welcome. Jason was prompt and quick to come out and give a detailed consultation. Antonio’s crew was amazing! Not only were they on time, but a few minutes early. They made sure to walk me through the process and didn’t leave until the job was complete. Scott helped work with my insurance adjuster and went out of his way to make sure I was completely satisfied. Bill and Sandra in the office treated me like family and Steve, the owner, was very kind and welcomed me to the Roof One family. Phenomenal Job Roof One, my family and I couldn’t be happier - Thank you!

From the beginning to the end, Roof one really impressed me regarding their professionalism when roofing my house. In particular Steve and Mark managed this job wonderfully. The crew they sent over did such a wonderful quality job and made sure my property was free of nails and debris. I would definitely hire this company for a roof job. Very straight forward with their prices and options. I was also grateful they hooked up vent fans and provided a gorgeous flashing for my large chimney. Good job guys! Wish there were more contractors like you!
