Summer is typically the time for holidays and leisure, when people want to have fun instead of working around their house. However, when it comes to the roof, it must be kept in tip-top shape during every season. Summer roof maintenance must not be very detailed and will take only a few hours of your time, which is a small effort to do for your peace of mind.
Maintenance ensures safety and that`s why we recommend regular visual roof inspections.
Climbing the roof must be avoided if you are not a professional, but you can use binoculars to get a close-up at shingles and other roof materials. Do this in the morning, on a clear day. Look for cracked or curled shingles, loose accessories and any type of stains and vegetation growth. Look more carefully in corners and roof valleys, as well as around vents and different other roof penetrations.
Make sure the gutters are in their right place. Tighten all bolts. Use a ladder and check if they are clean; if you notice dirt and debris accumulated in the gutters, clean them using a brush, to allow water to be properly collected and redirected, better yet hire a Shelby roofer to do the job.
Also check the eves and remove debris that may have gathered, but pay extra attention to insects that may have built their nest there.
