Removing Stains, Mold From Roof

If you live in an area that gets lots of rain, you have surely seen roofs that get large, dark-colored patched – the most conspicuous sign of roof mold. Like many other types of mold, roof mold is also caused by an accumulation of organisms, usually algae carried by the wind that find favorable, damp conditions on the roof. They find the dampness that they need on roofs covered in debris that absorbs rain water, so the ultimate cause of the appearance of a mold infestation is the presence of roof debris.

Roof mold may look like a very serious problem – and if it is neglected, it can become one for sure –, but it is not very difficult to remove. The first step needs to be thorough roof cleaning either by you or a professional roofing company such as Roof One of Michigan – you can use soap water or a mix of bleach and water to make sure to disinfect the roof, but don’t use a pressure washer because the strong jet thrown on the roof by the machine can damage the roof, especially if it is made from shingles. Apply a coating of mold repellant on the clean roof and make sure to repeat the procedure regularly, at the intervals recommended in the instructions of the coating, to keep mold off your roof for good.
